Rug Azarbayejan-Bakhshajesh-14

Currently on display in our virtual museum is a Toranji design rug, dating back to 1875 and believed to have originated from the region of Bakhshayesh. Measuring 419cm x 112cm, it features a central medallion design in a rich color palette, including shades of blue, light-blue, red and yellow. The intricate details and symmetrical pattern illustrate the exceptional skill and artistry of the weaver. One of the unique feature of this rug is the presence of two small deer figures, in the center of the rug, which are not commonly seen in traditional Persian rugs. The inclusion of these figures may have a specific cultural or symbolic meaning, but it is not clear without more context.
