The Shahsavan are a nomadic group of weavers from Iran, who have a rich tradition of rug weaving. Their rugs are known for their bright colors, bold designs and geometric patterns. This particular rug features an “endless repeat” design, with a field of bright red, punctuated by colorful geometric shapes that repeat across the rug. The green and blue elements in particular stand out and provide a visual pop to the overall design. The size of the rug is 121cm by 96cm, making it relatively small and intimate in scale. Given that it was produced in the 19th century, it is a unique artifact of a rich cultural tradition, capturing the essence of this nomadic group of weavers at a specific moment in time.
